Wellington Scoop: NZ’s largest audiovisual digitisation project celebrated at National Library

The Utaina project, New Zealand’s largest audiovisual digitization initiative, has officially concluded, preserving over 400,000 items from Ngā Taonga Sound & Vision, the National Library of New Zealand, and Archives New Zealand. The multi-year, crown-funded program was launched in response to the urgent risk of magnetic media obsolescence and has preserved hundreds of thousands of hours of television, radio, music, and cultural recordings. Memnon was selected as the international digitization partner, carrying out the preservation work from a dedicated studio in Lower Hutt, helping ensure these audiovisual taonga endure for generations to come.
